Ok I live in southern Cali, and I bought some pansies. They came in a little 6 pack of plants. When I replanted them into large pots I have outside (for a container garden) they did well for a while but despite being kept moist (not drowned) they have shriveled up. When I replanted I used that moisture control miricle grow soil, and I was very carefull to be gentle when replanting. Can they handle bright sun? Thats why I got them, I was told they were hardy. Also when repotting, are you or are you not supposed to loosen the little square soil that the roots are in (when your remove it from the little square planter, and the root ball is shaped like a square) do you loosen it up or just replant it? My other plants seem fine. Geeze I think I have a black thumb! 8::::(
Pansies question?
Pansies like it a bit chilly. They are hardy in chilly weather, like what I have now(Ohio). If you have a spot that gets shade in the afternoon, put them there. They like the early morning sun.
Reply:Heat and dryness kill them. I was told not to expect them to last longer than through the spring. At the garden center, they told me they shrug off freezing and snow, but can't take heat.
Reply:They don't need to much water, you may be over watering. Stick your finger into the dirt down to your second knuckle, if it's dry water otherwise no. When you buy them in the 6 pack you just take it out keep it all together don't break up the small cube of dirt and replant.

Wouldn't the people of the Greatest Generation be ashamed at the defeatists in America today?
The people of the Greatest Generation helped make America the society it is today. They would be sickened by the great amount of communists and traitors in American society today. One of my forefathers fought in WWII because he loved this country.
The Greatest Generation weren't whiners, they weren't pansies - they all just pitched in and got the job done. The military certainly didn't take it's orders from the ACLU. They built domestic detention camps, fire-bombed Dresden, obliterated Berlin, nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The war cost the USA 500,000 of her bravest sons. Not one spouse or parent betrayed their country and demanded a 'meeting' with the President.
What would these great patriots have done with the likes of 'leaders' such as Harrd Reid (told the military, "You're risking your lives for nothing"), John Murtha (called the Haditha Marines “cold-blooded” murderers and condemned them as guilty without a trial), Dick Durbin (compared the US military to Nazis)?
Wouldn't the people of the Greatest Generation be ashamed at the defeatists in America today?
My father who fought valiantly and proudly in ww 2 would be so humiliated and ashamed of the defeatocrat party..my father was a democrat and I am sure he would feel so betrayed..rest in peace dad.
Reply:I think they would be scracthing their head in wonder at the decisions our president has made.
They would wonder why our borders remain open 6 years after 9/11.
They would wonder why al Qaeda is as strong or stronger than it was on 9/11 after spending hundreds of billions of dollars fighting in Iraq.
They would wonder why we could possibly choose Iraq out of all of the "terrorist" countries.
They would wonder if their fight for the freedoms that Americans enjoy are being lost because of decisions of the Bush administration and Homeland Security.
Fighting Nazi Germany is not the same as fighting terrorists spread across the world. I think these men and women that fought in WWII realize the difference.
Reply:They would wonder why nobody listened to their hero "Ike" when he warned us about the great industrial military complex.
Reply:I think they would have started a Mob and you would have seen a hanging.
Reply:There were anti war activists during WW11 just as there are now, the difference being, they were ignored by the general public. All Americans during that time felt they were part of a the war effort because we were asked to sacrifice things, like rubber tires for tank tires, women's stockings for the nylon to make parachutes, and butter for the war effort., and we were asked to invest in the effort by buying War Bonds. When people participated in the war effort they felt apart of it.
I do think the Greatest Generation would be dismade at the political climate. I have not know another time in history when the President was so disrespected by the opposition party. The Democrats declared war on Bush before he took office, so no matter what decisions he has made the Dems. have opposed them. They quickly forgot that Bill Clinton stated there WMDs in Irag, and Saddam needed top be overthrown, so did the UN and all of the Security Counsel. However, when we went to war because of that info, Bush lied. Go Figure !!!
Murtha and Reed should be tried for treason, because they have undermined this war effort at every turn It is impossible to run a politically correct war, as we are discovering, and if the Democrats get into office, we will put out tail between our legs and whimp home, only to have the War on Terror change venues and come here to our shores.

Why KG is better than Kobe...not a question...want some opinions?
since Alpha Wolf and KING are being pansies and getting into it over the net, i'll start something out of boredom...Kevin Garnett is better than Kobe, for many obvious reasons...i can't believe someone like Charles Barkley would say that he is arguably the best in the league right now...no...he just scores alot of points from alot of places...even winning for his team is not an argument...two straight series lost in the post season, to the same team (granted they are the Suns), and Kobe went from scorer, to assist man, to ron artest, and nothing worked..he became inconsistent and, couldnt win...but that's not it...off the court, he's been sued (she was playing him tho), he's gotten in to Phil Jackson's face (made him leave one season), and now he's lost the loyalty of his fans by DEMANDING a trade, for what, ever? Now KG, consistently averaging double doubles, at least since 04, never had beef w/ Flip, never "raped" NE1, n had MIN behind him the whole way, never wanting to leave.et tu?
Why KG is better than Kobe...not a question...want some opinions?
Wrong!! Guess what 7 All-NBA Defensive 1st Team designations mean? Answer: It means that Kobe Bryant is not just a scorer, he plays spectacular defense, averages more assist, more steals, and more points per game then Kevin Garnett. These are career totals by-the-way. If you eliminate the first two years of Kobe's career due to lack of playing time (he was 17-18 years old), his stats are amazing. I, however, am not someone who relys on just stats - we all know how deceiving they can be. Who would you rather have the ball at the end of the game? Your obvious "anti-Kobe" feelings may cloud your opinion, but I think deep down you'd prefer #24. Kevin is a temendous talent and I'm a big fan. He's 7ft. tall, he's suppose to get 10+ rebounds a game, and he's the star of his team, he's suppose to average more than 10 points a game. Kobe has made the play-offs with subpar talent around him 2-years straight, and single-handedly put his team on his back the last 3 months of this past season to ensure a play-off birth (multiple 50+ game performances/averaged 40+ points per game in the month of March). Yes, they got beat (never swept) by the Suns both years, but you'd expect that. The Suns had the second best record in the dominate West last year, and the best the year before. One "player", regardless of how spectacular he is and how hard he may try, can not beat a better "team" in a 7-game series. Kevin, on the other hand, has not been able to get it done (how many years in a row?) Yes, he too has subpar talent around him, but he's never shown that he can put a team on his back and single-handedly get them into the playoffs. Now on to the alleged rape case...you should really spend some time reading the information that came out in the case against Kobe before you make accusitory comments. If you did, you would have discovered that the alleged-victim had another man's (I'll just say DNA) on her an her under clothes when she was examined by doctors the next morning after the alleged attack. She also got off work 3 hours before Kobe arrived at the hotel, but stuck around to meet him and offered to take him for a tour (off the clock). She sent/received several text messages to/from a male friend the night of the alleged attack, and when Kobe's attorney's subpoenaed those text records, the alleged-victim dropped the case. Sounds like a set-up to me!!?? There's nothing wrong with having an opinion, we're all entitled. It would just be more legitimate if there was some merrit behind it. I do, however, have a problem with people such as yourself, who presume guilt before knowing all the facts or before a person is convicted. Biasness is not the best way to base an opinion.
Reply:Kevin Garnett is a great player but he is no Kobe Bryant. Kobe is better offensively and defesively plus he is what KG isn't..........................CLUTCH.
I understand why you would think what you think but face fact KG is no Kobe that's why it's so difficult to trade Kobe because it's almost impossible to get at least equal value.
Reply:their both great players. u can't say who better than who when they both don't even play the same position. u stupid for postin this.
Reply:I don't think so. Kobe, as much of a puss as he is, can carry an average team to the playoffs by playing selfish ball. KG needs help. Both in the top 5 best right now though.
Reply:Hes not. KOBE is the GREATEST
Reply:im sure you are just bored and you are trying to start something. But Kobe is better then KG. KG isnt a top 10 player. how many times did they go to the playoffs how many times did they win a playoff game what really has KG one. Yes Kobe is the best in the game right now. Either him or the NBA FINALS MVP Dwayne Wade but only that guy that had those 4 great games if he played like that all the time he would be the best. Kobe has no one on the Lakers the suck. Yes i am a Lakers Fan. Kobe isnt going to be traded he will retire as a LAKERS player. He wants better players. Jordan didnt win without pippen and Phil and all the other players around him. Look at the roster from the years they won the championships. They were stacked they had so many good players, great role players they had everything they needed.
Reply:I love Kobe, but he's not 6-11, doesn't average 20 and 12, and has too much baggage to go along with his game. Kevin Garnett was in a horrible situation in Minnesota. He never once voiced the media his displeasure. He never once demanded a trade then said he doesn't want one then two days later demand one again.
He's one of the best forwards of all-time.. He'll now have the chance in Boston to not have to carry the load. He's always been a team first guy, always had a great head on his shoulders, and always put up numbers that led or was among the leaders in the league.

Is Kobe a great player ? yes
can he outscore KG? yes
But is he someone i would want on my team? heck no..
if he had the talent the wolves had around KG, he probally would have just quit playing basketball.. which says alot about KGs character because he didnt whine about his team, he tryed to motivate the timberwolves, albeit it failed, he never quit trying in 12 years.
P.S.
KG is a class act,
Kobe could take a que from KG in the role model department, no question about it.

What has happened to GREAT Britain? Iran? Come on!?
Great Britain was once a paragon of strength and Christian solidarity. However, it seems that the insidious liberal virus of Europe has begun to infect the British Isles. In reading all of the posts here about the captured British sailors, I am seeing a disturbing amount of British posters whining and complaining and seeking a "diplomatic" way out.
When will you liberals begin to understand that Muslims and other therrorists of similar ilk absolutely rely on liberal pansies to continue their ridiculous shenanigans. A serious show of strength is all it will take for Britain to take back their sailors from Iran and to show the Muslim terrorist world that the West is not to be trifled with.
I assure you that Churchill would not be mamby pampying around about this issue...
Be strong Britain and remember the Roman, Celtic, and Danish roots that have made you the fiercest island nation in the history of the world!
What has happened to GREAT Britain? Iran? Come on!?
is there a point to all of that? it is a nice opinion, but what is your question?

What happened to Rock and Roll?
Rock music used to be loud and in your face. It was rebellious, dangerous and over the top. Groups like Megadeth, Def Lepard and Ozzy was what rock was all about. Now its just about a few wussies whining about their girlfriends. How and why did it stray so much. Yeah Nirvana was good but it turned the rock fans into pansies.
What happened to Rock and Roll?
You're throwing a loaded question out there for us. We could go even further and ask what happened to all of the garage bands of the 60's, etc, etc, etc. None of the three bands with a minor exception to Ozzy would be anywhere near my list of "what rock was all about". All three pretty much hit the mainstream and have generally faded in terms of popularity because tastes and trends have changed over time. Most rock fans would cite Ozzy's best work was with Black Sabbath. Megadeth's popularity peaked in part due to a general shift in rock music. While music may change quite a bit bands that are transitional tend to strike the historical chord moreso than those who follow in the wake.
Nirvana was a transition out of 80's hair bands, Green Day transitioned so-cal punk and brought a slough of bands up with them to the mainstream. Music is largely cyclical and while I agree with you that most music you hear on the radio is pooh, there's still a few bands worthy of merit out there that are not singing about their girlfriends.
Consider that the White Stripes were riding the tail end of the garage rock revival, bands like the Faint rode the 80's synth revival, Wolfmother and the Strokes are geared more towards 70's revival.
Other bands that are worth their weight in gold never break into the mainstream but are rock from sun up to sun down, from year to year: Steve Albini has carried his sound from Big Black to Shellac on the back of his Travis Bean - while the sound has changed, it is still what rock was and what it is and what it should be.
The music is still there, you just have to be willing to look for it. I would suggest going to Pandora.com radio, typing in a few bands and see what comes up - you'll be surprised at what is new and what is old that you may have missed.
I've found the better adventure is finding all of the music that I was missing growing up.
Reply:def lepard and ozzy r 2 much 4 2days groups 2 live up to. no one would listen 2 it cuz its just not the same. ima teen and i love rock and roll but if sum new group 2day tried 2 play rock and roll it wouldnt be as good.the 60s-80s was the rock n roll era and now its the rap and emo and punk era.
Reply:Rock and Roll will one day find its way back to the top
i am a HUGE classic rock fan
I hate rap because a lot of songs are nasty
Long live rock and roll
cheers to Freddie Mercury, Randy Rhodes, and Jimi Hendrix
Reply:check out some bands like wolfmother and black rebel motorcycle club
Reply:You got me chef, i dunno what the hell happened either! Evolution and direction of the music industry i guess , ....though i can't stand where it's taken us to. ....For me , i decided to chuck it all and go back and rediscover what lit my fire the first time, which meant breaking out all my old Queen , Thin Lizzy , Def Leppard , UFO , Sweet , etc. albums .....and i'm ok with that. Screw modern pop rock radio!
Reply:It died away after the 80's and when hip-hop/rap came around strong and in your face. Ewww...
Reply:I wish I knew. A lot of once-good bands and artists who used to play rock like it should be- loud, up-beat and catchy, are now coming out with stuff that's more likely to put one to sleep.
Like many other answerers, most of the rock CDs I listen to now are my old ones.
Reply:Dude, Music is Music.Giving it a name is so stupid.Wether it be Rock and Roll,Metal,Hard Rock,Punk Rock,Emo,Goth Rock, or Whatever. It's music and it impacts people thru the way it's expressed. It's all the same S**T cause it has all had a impact on culture.
Reply:It's hiding from the emos.
Reply:You got a point, all these new bands sound exactly the same to me...like they paid the same guy to sing in every freaking group...and yeah nirvana was good..but look what it did to us!
Reply:Nirvana killed Heavy Metal. But years later Heavy Metal started making a come back, with Kid Rock, Korn, Slipknot, and Limp Bizket. So, I don't know what happened. You either have to listen to 35 year old classic rock or try to find a few good bands of today, which is very hard to do.
Reply:It's still out there, it's just gotten harder to find.
Reply:cry, cry... :( we can still live with punk and emo... but still...
Reply:these new bands are trying to capture that sound to me is jus plain uncreative and almost poser like but there are lot of diffrent metal bands out nowadays you jus have to look at avenues of a musics genere. to its like alot of people are in bands in this generation of ours but theres a few people today who are musicians, they might not be the most popular or the next big thing, but they are there you jus have to take a listen and decide for yourself.
Reply:I have to agree.. I don't really care for much of today's music (and I'm only 18!!).. Classic rock is the BEST!!!!
Reply:I don't know, I gave up trying to listento the radio a dozen years ago.
As for the bands mentiones: Megadeth is was still out there lobbying bombs at the powers that be until this year's United Abomination, which sounds like Fox News is startings its own label. Love Ozzy, but he's pretty much a muppet now. Def leppard sold out in 87, setting a template for metallica. I never cared for nirvana; just never saw what the hoopla was all about.
