What are some viable solutions to America's increasing hippie population?

I think we should find some sort of isolated area to put them all. They need to be placed away from the general population-not because they are a threat to our saftey (they are too much of pansies to be a threat to anything), but because they smell so terrible and annoy too many people (people who actually work and contribute something to society) with their persistent whining and irrational demands. Though we must regularly supply them with marijuana and chai tea, the cost will not be much, since we wont need to worry about any sort of plumbing as they do not shower, and food will be unnecessary as they do not eat meat and can find their own leaves and herbs in the forrest.

This is just my idea. I would just like to know what you all think of it. Please also tell me any ideas that you have. Hippies...your opinions are more than welcome too. I am not being hateful in any way, I'm only being constructive, and I hope you will do me the same courtesy.

A hippy is basicly a subjectivist, that is, a person that believes that anything and everything is equal, and that diplomacy is always the solution. Technically though, not all hippies are people that do not shower; a large portion do.



The solution to the hippy problem is simple. Give them their own autonomous country by sectioning off San Francisco and nearby parts of northwest California, then transport all hippies from the United States to said new country, and let any non-hippies from the new country leave. As a separate country, they will not have military protection from the United States. They are pacifists, so they will not defend themselves, and will soon go extinct. It is only the charitable military protection by others that keeps such darwinian inferiors in the gene pool. Without military protection, they will quickly be conquered, killed, and enslaved by anyone and everyone.

Reply:Segregation hasn't been particularly effective, from a historical viewpoint. I suggest you read "Cosmopolitanism: Ethics in a World of Strangers" by Kwame Anthony Appiah. Part of this books talks about how in modern society we have grown more accepting of different groups (homosexuals, blacks, etc), and the main way we have done so is through dialogue. Perhaps if you spent more time in discussion with hippies, you might come to understand their viewpoint and feel less offended and/or repulsed when you were around them. Certainly your perception of hippies as pot-smoking, non-bathing tree-huggers would change as you met individuals who defied this stereotype.



You may ask your question as a joke, but unfortunately it is indicative of a society that wants to push minorities aside and create a completely homogenous group (sort of like Nazi Germany).

A hippie is a person who opposes and rejects many of the conventional standards and customs of society, especially one who advocates extreme liberalism in sociopolitical attitudes and lifestyles. Perhaps you are confusing them with several other genres of folks you've seen. There are homeless people clean as a whistle, and there are slothenly people living in mansions. When you get someone homeless AND slothenly, they stand out and are assumed to represent what you're calling a hippie. Your view is very narrow, probably just because you're uninformed.



Getting back to your suggestion, that of taking away the rights of specific US citizens by segregating and isolating them from what you call the 'general population'. Well, I can tell you that those who know that many of these disturbed individuals are Viet Nam Vets and mentally ill people who have slipped through the system will not stand for it. Baby boomers would see their old friends going off to what might as well be a lepor colony. There are no people in our country that are disposable. That type of mindset is REAL scary to me. What needs to happen instead is that we need to have a mental health system that takes care of these people in positive ways, including the drug addicts and alcoholics.

Hippies ar people who were teens and young adults in the 60's and early 70's who believed in free love, freedom of speech, and peace. Most wereclean, and held jobs.
