Which is more realistic in self defence?

dancing around like a bloody pansy wasting your energy or give them all you have from the word go not wasting as much energy?

Which is more realistic in self defence?
Um, It's Miyamoto Musashi and it's the Book of 5 Rings.

Anyway, if we are talking about a "real" fight- a self defense situation- then you should first try to avoid it at all costs. Run away if possible, give the person what they want if you think that will end the threat. Nothing you have is worth risking your life...unless you think they will hurt you or someone else around you anyway.

If you do have to actually fight, make it as fast, as devastating, and as absolutely brutal as you possibly can. The longer your enemy is capible of hurting you the worse it is. There are no rules (other than the legal rights of ANY individual), there are no points for a take down, and no judges will award points after you lose. If it is TRULY self defense, hurt the enemy as bad as you can as fast as you can and then run away and call the police.

Reply:excuse me is it alright if i interupt your little pansy sewing circle?i'l be quick and then you's can get back to talking about dress fabrics or whatever.if your dancing around like a pansy then you must be a pansy and so must the other bloke.iv'e never seen a real MA dancing around like a pansy because real MAs dont fight (except in the ring)they defend themselves.different thing.they certainly dont wait for the other bloke to stand still and put their hands down so they can get in 2 carefully placed and timed hits and"Take them down"(dh),and why would you want to take someone down without hurting them unless you've got a death wish.if the situations got that far out of hand that you have to "Take someone down"(dh) then you should be doing it properley.if you didn't want to hurt him you should have already done some thing about the situation before it got to that stage.any one with half a brain knows that.but if you read Myamoto Musachis book on self defence(HUH?)you'll be an instant expert. But why would an expert MA want to dance around like a pansy? The seven rings a self defence book?hmmm i must be missing something here.

Real(experienced)MA dont dance around like a pansy they do what they have to do at the time.

in short you keep your mouth shut and your hands to yourself then when someone attacks you (thats not fighting)you do what you have to do.maximun damage minimum impact.doesn't sound like a lot of energy wasted there?
Reply:Neither,

In any fight, you don't wanna waste a lot of energy, but make sure that your strikes count. economy of movement conserves your enery and stamina.

but to just jump around or to go all out on your opponent only serves to use up your stamina and allows your opponent that little bit of time for you to wear yourself down. and then they can easily move in to finish you off.
Reply:i think the more realistic in self defense is a combination, check first, if u can handle him go fight. if he is armed and a gang mybe give them all u have
Reply:dancing around like a bloody pansy until you see an opening and then committing 110% to it

doesnt really matter, hit so you take them down when you have the opening presented, dont screw around peppering them with hits or swinging wildly- that is the dumbest thing

you either take them down with one or two hits, carefully placed and timed

or you avoid being within grappling distance

this is all very hypothetical

it depends on who you are fighting and where you are

i have danced around like a pansy when it has been appropriate

and i have gone the other way too

really the best self-defense is to run away, avoid being hit and run

if you engage, it is easy to take someone down without hurting them,

if they have a bar, knife, stick

then its not fair anymore, so the rules change, in my eyes

if you really want to know about self-defense

read miyamoto musashi's book of seven rings

should be able to find it with google
Reply:I'm not a fan of dancing. I advocate waiting for an opening, but against an untrained opponent, going all out will usually work.
Reply:I don't advocate dancing around like a pansy but oh man... that would be hilarious to watch.
Reply:It all depends on the situation .
Reply:Why go hand to hand if you don't have to and invest your money in a pistol, but if all else fails, give it 110%
