Why do some think smoking bans are so great?

I cant' believe Colorado. No smoking in public places. Missouri and Kansas freaking rocks good time. I can go have a beer and light up my cigar without some pansy saying I have to go out in the 0 degree air and smoke alone. People actually like to have a good time. They don't think less of those who smoke.

And I feel for those that are allergic to smoke. But the majority are not. YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT SOMETHING HERE: PEOPLE CAN'T LIVE IN CERTAIN AREAS in the country BECAUSE OF ALLERGIES. TEXAS FOR INSTANCE. SHOULD WE BAN POLLEN? I mean should we ban smokiing indoors because 10% of people are allergic to smoke?

THink freedom here guys. It should be the owner. Not the government saying who should smoke in or what not.

You would have to sit in a 5ft/5ft box for 30 years of think cig smoke 24/ 7 to even develop a RISK of catching anything. Maybe we should ban pollution. You don't think that is harmful in the city?

Let's let you anti-smokers sit outside.

Why do some think smoking bans are so great?
Really, this is a capitalist country. Competition and the free market are supposed to take care of everything. The point is, if people don't want to deal with smoke at a restaurant or bar, they'll go to a nonsmoking establishment. If the smoking establishment loses business they might consider banning smoking. That's how America works! You're totally right that it should be up to the individual owner. It's his own paycheck he's screwing with so he will make the right decision based on what kind of people patronize his place. It really pisses me off too that towns and states ban smoking.
Reply:obviously you don't have allergies so you don't know what it's like having to sit there being allergic to something. we can't ban pollen because pollen isn't something that we can control everywhere it is produced in the state! pollen is a natural occurrance, cigarettes are not.

besides, smokers don't realize what cigarette smell does to people who don't smoke...it gets on your clothes and makes your clothes smell, so you're smelling it the rest of the night and you have to go home and wash all of your clothes in order to get it out. it's a pain, and a dirty habit, and i'm glad it's banned.
Reply:I can understand you being angry because YOU have to go outside to smoke. OMG life is so harsh.

Can you think about the other perspective though? I for one, cannot belive we live in a nation where the government lets the health of its citizens be put in danger just from being exposed to toxins like that! I really do wish there was a gray area, like a smoking room that is closed off, but there isnt. Unfortunately, its black and white, you know?

And yes I know there are lots of dangers out there... car exhaust, the sun... blahblahblah. But shouldn't we make a difference where we can? We dont ask that you don't smoke, we simply ask that it is not allowed for people to be exposed to these dangers against their will.

Good luck, and please research the effects of tobacco smoke on others so that you may see the dangers.
Reply:I don't agree with the ban on smoking even though I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke. I do think that it is the owners right to let what he or she wants in their establishment. I just think that the cities and states take to much of our freedoms away. Oh and I smoke a pipe to.
Reply:Face it...........smoking is dangerous for everyone in the are of the smoker. I know you enjoy a good smoke and could care less about what you are doing to others around you who also have a right to be where you are without having to worry about inhaling your fumes.

I use to smoke and still want to but I never smoked outside, nor in public places, only at home because I didn't want to hurt others as I was hurting myself.
Reply:Smoking is unnatural and cigarette smoke smells foul. Smokers smell horrible as well. I use the finest lotions and colognes..very subtle...nothing overbearing. I hate to devote my time to smelling delicious only to have to be in a room gagging on the stink of a smoker and their smoke.
