Does anyone have a favorite year of the Jeep Wrangler?

I'm looking into buying one soon, and don't know if I should just spend the money and get a brand new one, or if there are older models (2000 and newer) that would suffice. Also, would I be the biggest pansy if I got an automatic Jeep? Give me your thoughts, ideas, opinions, stories about Jeep Wranglers and whether or not I should get one! Thanks!

Do not get an automatic.....unless you are over 60.

1997 and up are good Jeeps (TJ). I would stay away from the 2007 and up cuz they are ugly. I would look for a user Rubicon Unlimited.
Reply:I love my 01 but remember, a used jeep can be really really used.A Used jeep has most likely been driven hard and put away wet!If you can afford the new one certainly buy the new one you will have an excellent warranty and know that nobody but you have beat her up.The new wrangler actually has excellent ground clearance, but if you buy an unlimited,or 4 door you will not have the turning radius of the short one.You will not get into the parking spots that we can and if you just want a station wagon there are more comfortable ones on the market.as for automatic- hey whatever floats your boat.I wouldn't buy it but I'm a grandfather with a ponytail so I won't judge you. Some of the models like the sahara seem like they would be good off-road but on the older ones(pre 07) had painted fender extensions Where my special ordered sport has flat colored vinyl. they give when contacting sticks etc,and don't scratch as much.So for trouble free motoring a new jeep is guaranteed and a used one has been driven hard.Which do you want.
Reply:In 2000 they changed to a new trans. It was a better trans than before but ones produced early that year would pop out of first. By 01 that issue was fixed and in 01 they came out with a thicker quieter soft top than previous years. After that the only changes (other then the brand new ones) where stereo, and maybe some comfort and convince issues with the rear seat. Expect for the Rubicons which is a good deal if you want to off-road your jeep. If has many upgrades that are very usable of road that are expensive to do on your own. The unlimited with the longer wheel base is a good change.

Which ever year get make sure you get the rear dana 44 rear axle if you want to go with larger tires.

Auto vs stick: there are benefits and draw backs to each, not a pansy non pansy issue.

ezachow 97-06 all look the same.
Reply:My dad is getting a new one within the next month. The good thing about wranglers is they don't change they body style that much so the older ones don't look too bad. I prefer the new one just because you don't have to worry about anything going wrong with it.

And I actually prefer automatics.
Reply:97-2000 the new ones are butt-ugly.
Reply:1997( like mine)- 2000..i agree the new ones are ugly..
