Dennis, when mayor of Cleveland fought the establishment to save Cleveland thousands of dollars, and did not back down from any fight with the powers that be in city hall.

I know the story of how he run Cleveland into default, but that was a total fabrication. The reason Cleveland went into default was one George Forbes, the council president, controlled the purse strings in Cleveland, and he had made the decision to sell our municipal light plant to some of his cronies for next to nothing, and Dennis stopped that in it;s tracks. From then on, Forbes would not turn loose any money unless it was to be spent on the blacks in Cleveland, claiming "it was the people's money, and if it didn't help the blacks, it wasn't going to happen". The result, Cleveland went into default.

Dennis, despite his demeanor, is probably one of handfull of honest politicians in the whole country, a rare commodity indeed.
