Epidural While on Medicaid?

I'm pretty sure i'm not going to have insurance to cover my pregnancy. So now I'm going to have to go on Healthy Start(Medicaid) %26amp; WIC (I live in Ohio). Please tell me I will still be able to have a epidural during labor? I'm the biggest pansy you'll ever meet!

Epidural While on Medicaid?
Yes you absolutely will. My sister is on Medicaid (Mom's ins wouldn't cover her) %26amp; WIC also. She got an epidural w/ no problems %26amp; just had her baby yesterday actually =o)
Reply:Yes, when medically indicated an epidural is covered. Your doctor should be able to write it up so that it's paid for by medicaid as if it's ordered it is considered a medical necessity. You won't have to suffer :). Speak with your doctor about it once you have your appointment. Also be sure and take birth classes if they are available. Because even with epidurals education is the key to relaxing and making the birth easier.
Reply:If you have medicaid, then yes it will cover the epidural!
Reply:Here in New Mexico my epidural was covered. My case worker told me that if it's injected, it's covered. She did advise me that any pills aren't covered and to make sure any pain relief is injected so I wouldn't have to pay out of pocket. Strange since all of my prescription pain killers were covered....

I don't know if it's different in Ohio, I suggest you talk to your case worker. Also, Don't let the hospital tell you that you can't have an epidural!!! You have a right to it if you request it!!!
Reply:Medicaid "might not" cover the epidural that means you gotta pay out of your own pocket. My sister in law was on medicaid and it didn't cover epidural..she had to pay $500. Maybe it depends where you are living and on the hospital...I don't know~
Reply:Medicaid will pay for all of your maternity care with your doctor, including labor and delivery and the cost of an epidural.
Reply:yes you can have anything and the state will pay for it
Reply:Medicaid is still insurance. Every hospital I know of accepts it and it covers epidurals. About the only thing they don't cover at the hospital I worked at was breast pumps. My sister had medicaid in her state and she had an epidural. There should be a 1-800 # on the card for you to call and ask, but I am just about positive they do. Good luck on your pregnancy. I bet after you have this baby, you will not see yourself as a pansy !!!
Reply:Yes it will cover epidural. AND no you can't have anything and medicaid will cover. Medicaid has stopped covering many things including some medications and procedures.
Reply:Yes.
Reply:Hey sweetie, first off let me say i have 2 children and through both of my prognancies i was on medicaid and recieve wic...i live in louisiana. Medicaid provided you will all the usual services you would recieve in if you had a health insurance program of your own...so yes, you will be asked by your doctor if you would like to have an epidural or go natural....i of course had the epidural for both of mine!!!!
Reply:i was on medicaid and yes they cover the epidural.
Reply:epidurals are for p*ssies!
Reply:I was in the same situation with my first (I got preggers before hubbies work insurance kicked in)

Medicaid covers everything 100% to do with the pregnancy except prenatal vitamins.
