Why are religious individuals typically so uneducated?

Why are people so mindless that they can't defend their beliefs beyond pansy answers?



I mean... typical answers I receive



The bible says so...

Jesus died for your sins...

My preacher says so...



What I want to know... is why they can't create a better defense for their beliefs than that?



I personally find it very sad to think that people are so mindless as to simply believe everything they are told and not at least work through their beliefs and find some personal reason.

Many just listen to their reverend one hour a week and get one scripture that's usually mistranslated and get all reved up about what a man said and false doctrines. God tells us to study to show ourselves approved unto Him, not man. To really study the Bible, one needs to go into the original meanings of words in the Hebrew and Greek . Too many are just lazy pew warmers. God calls them sottish which means silly foolish children. A true Christian can answer a question with or without scripture.
Reply:I think your post is a little hypocritical in the effect that you're referring to all religious individuals as being uneducated.



It sounds more like you're referring to very strict Christians.



You have to look at the people you're asking. Myself, I'm still searching but I've researched many religions, philosophies, and scientific evidence as well as parapsychology to try and come up with some kind of answer. The fact is, no one knows beyond a shadow of a doubt why man is here.



So ask yourself, why are you so upset that some people have an undying faith in Jesus Christ? Maybe there is something that they have that makes them feel better with the life they are living and gives them strength that you don't understand because maybe you do not share the same faith.



I think you should probably start looking into some of the above topics yourself to find out what you believe, because it is easy to attack, just like it is a lot easier to destroy than it is to create. But anger because some people are simply strict in their ways and beliefs doesn't translate to anything positive reguardless if they are right or wrong.
Reply:First, try not to be so insulting. It's a good way to get your question yanked and then no one gets to see the answers, which may be less insulting and less vitriolic than the question.



Most people are uneducated or undereducated. The educated people are in a minority. Since undereducated folks have likely never been taught critical thinking skills they will tend to not question the faith they were brought up in. More educated people, especially those educated in the methods of inquiry used by science, will tend to be more critical of everything they see and ask a lot of questions and just think about things more thoroughly. The education process teaches people how to ask questions and explore topics.



The 'natural' state for people is one of superstition. Rationality and scientific inquiry are counter intuitive and take a lot of effort. It is easier to rely on arguments from authority. Even smart people will make this mistake frequently. I do it often and need to quit doing it...heh.



So I don't blame them for believing their religions. I understand why they do so and it isn't because they're stupid. It is mostly because they are lazy, or have had no reason to question their beliefs.



A really good book on belief is "How We Believe" by Michael Shermer. What I wrote above is not a summary of the book. Those are my own, and Mr. Shermer's work should not be judged based on what I wrote above.
Reply:Religious people are only interested in religion. Religion is a belief system that was made up by infallible humans.



The Bible, on the other hand, is factual and historical and has nothing to do with religion. Intelligent people will understand that.



Start asking those questions to educated people and you will get answers that make sense.
Reply:Let's see you present proof of your claim. What percentage of "religious individuals" are uneducated? What is the highest grade level on the average? What is the average GPA?



Until you can support your own beliefs with something that isn't so mindless, you should not criticize others.
Reply:I think you are being very narrow minded about this. Yes I agree that the arguments may appear weak, but they always will to someone who doesn't believe in god, but your arguement is equally as weak.



I'm gonna guess that you are an evolutionist, yes? Well I hate to point it out but I don't think you know the scientific facts behind it, so I am also presuming that you have been TOLD about it and you believe it. So how are you any better than them?
Reply:My Belief in God is very personal. And I can't remember anyone saying, "my preacher says so" on here. Naturally you will hear what the Bible and Jesus says on a Religion and Spirituality site. How can you be surprised by that?



As for religious people being uneducated, well...that depends on the individual. I have heard statements from Atheists on this site that are completely ignorant and uneducated.



It isn't my responsibility to create a "better defense" for my beliefs. My beliefs are my own and I have a perfect right to them. No defense required. Blessings!
Reply:I have personal reasons, My guess is that you would still discount my experiences to fit your personal perception. It is my truth and to me it is pure truth indeed.



The life of a Mature Christian that is lacking nothing (Godliness) is something that is not handed out as soon as you accept Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Many people go on to live a life that does not reflect Christ in their life to the point that the are seen as hypocrites. My theory is that , We all fall short of that perfectness and need continued grace from our Lord. So we sign on into people's perception of hypocrisy in the eyes of others when we accept Christ. This not mean we get to sin freely but that it is not humanly possible to obtain righteousness on our own. We still need forgiveness for future sins.I think people see the battle is tough for perfection and do not want to have to discipline themselves.



My challenge to you is , Can you truly seek the Lord in prayer, think of all your sins and ask the Lord to forgive you of them and come into your heart. Ask Him to make Himself known to you that you will know that He is real and guide you in the way you should go.

This is the only way to find the truth.



If you knock , (action on your part -first is required), Jesus will answer. Then Jesus will open the door to let you see Him and you will know He is there on the other side wanting to confirm Himself to you.

Their misinterpreted version of Genesis 3 says it all... knowing good from evil is the greatest sin of churchianity... the original sin.. They have the meaning of the entire story completely backwards... and their fake religion is the real downfall of mankind.

Scientists today unanimously agree Isaac Newton is the most influential and important scientist of all time. he believed all those things (except for the "pastor says so, so it is"). what do they have to do with education? why can't the Bible be used as a spiritual book? what's wrong with that?

take me for example, if i'm going to criticize something I'd at least do some research on it first.

That is the best defense. The false premise is a very powerful religious tool.
Reply:some are definitely uneducated and it's excusable because they don't know any better, but what's surprising is the educated ones who do the same thing.

Reply:Because they are taught to be blind about things that go against their religion. You don't hear of many religious college science instructors.

For all sort of these questions, I have very limited understanding so Let me give you the point. Well, just try to know, what’s makes God as god, the Power, isn’t it? So what the power can do? Ah? Well, It can give the ability to organise all things and It can give the ability to separate everything and most importantly, the Ability to control everything, Isn’t it? Isn’t it Good? Ah? So, what I try to say here is, from my hard study and research effort with the help from god, I realized that the ability to control everything, the Power of God is gradually increased in the full amount to use so, The Power of God is always the omnipotent and existed among everything so the God now is always the same omnipotent, who is organised us So how could that be possible to be perfect in perfection always, Ah…? And The Power of God, the ability is the reward for us to control everything in a proper manner, like the true God of goodness. So ~ LOVE IS THE ABILITY ~

We have to lift it up little by little towards Perfection. So



If you are humble, please... Pray to know the truth from true God by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit with great faith and. Good in Bad %26amp; Bad in Good so the values is most important. God gave us the rights to do what is right for you and sometimes, things can be right in your point of view but wrong in Public point of view so

Basically, just pray about it for the Good Answer and try to do the God's will first always

If you think, why so much trouble and pain in this world…? Then there is only one reason, without pain, No pleasure and without pleasure, no pain. So without them, we cannot enjoy this life so always we need them in our development towards the perfection of God. So-so you use pain and pleasure instead of pain and pleasure use you. I mean the vision of your future should be clear %26amp; it have to pull you rather than you have to push so you must link a lot of pleasure in order to succeed in the Best job. Your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.



It is Wonderful… wonderful nature for us by the true… God. And

we all make mistakes so it is hard to look for star in daylight. So just in faith… it is possible. Like that the faith in true God. And If you think, even expert can be wrong then you have to make the fine research in all most everything so It is hard and some time, it is impossible to achieve so Why we need inappropriate action to find the owner of higher power? SO,

So, just try to understand, because of Lack of faith in true God, we do not have the great gift of understanding of things so just

understand this please.

We cannot get anything from nothing so changing something into this perfect state, we need something or someone so all things are spiritually first, to govern everything by God. So, closely, Have a look at this world of wonders of yours and then you know the truth, when you listen to your real voice and then Having a strong desire to do the best every day then stick with the best to do your best. And most importantly, try to be grateful for what you have now and try to know where you come from to have the great gift of understanding and then, have the faith to become the best winner in your life. And this is the best meaning of happy life.

The Low of mercy cannot rob the Low of justice so God provided the way to our salvation to overcome our sin so Jesus Christ sacrifice is much needed to return to live with God, because God is perfect in perfection so Jesus Christ is our savior to pay our punishment of our sin so-so Because of the perfect love of god for you. So God gave Jesus Christ for us ~ FOR US ~
