Ppl who join the military...but don't want to fight?

OK i just answered a question that pissed me off the more i wrote my answer and thought about. Here's this guy that joined the Marine Corp he got out in 04 but wants to go back b/c he misses it...the only thing he doesn't miss is being in Iraq and if he signed back up he would change his job so he wouldn't have go back.

OK so here's where i get pissed off. This is your JOB if you join the military..whether you believe in the war at hand or not you join the military to protect your nation. This is your foremost and ONLY job description...yes i know there are other "jobs" per say in the military....but they train you to be a killer and when the time comes to kill you're not suppose to be a puussy and back down from it. So if you don't want to kill and protect then why join...b/c its cool?

And i know i bunch of you are gonna say well maybe he wanted an education...then go to college. The military is not there for pansy, candy @sses to just get an education...it's a perk for

Ppl who join the military...but don't want to fight?
Take a deep breath and calm down sweetie. Guy is probably a hoser. He is well aware that the Armed Forces is just that. His intent was to incite, and you took the bait..................
Reply:Has this guy even joined how can you criticise people if you don't know what they are looking for lets see you man up and join Report It
Reply:Settle down there missy... he did say he didn't miss being in Iraq. Most that come back don't really miss it... except a few of us adrenalin junkies.

He did serve, he did his time and now it's time for him to "move on". There's not a thing wrong with that. If you served in Iraq, then you'd know what he means... don't read into it.

My job description never said anything about "to kill" nor was I a "killer"... those are perks, lol.
Reply:I agree with you completely
Reply:calm down and breath
Reply:The military requires support people, who's job is not primarily combat. One can serve in many ways.

Did you serve in the military?
Reply:First off, the military trains you to react, to defend, and to survive but not to kill, our job isn't to kill our enemy, its to render him/her harmless. All were taught is "center mass" (look it up), and everyone who answered your rant will agree, we're not in the military to kill we're in the military to preserve your right to knock on one of our fellow service members and if that means we have to pull a trigger to preserve your rights then dammit thats what we'll do.

I've never been given the order, to "kill everyone in sight" and neither has anyone else , we're given order like, "secure a given objective" and "conduct a presence patrol."

Everyone in the military is trained to react, we rarely and I mean rarely ever take the first shot without a threat to our lives present.

By joining the military, whether you deploy or not you still serve your country. Don't rant about what you obviously do not understand.

One more piece of advise... don't ever knock on a service member, that "pansy" (whether he/she wants to or not) may deploy and possibly get injured or God forbid die to protect your freedom.

By the way, who would miss Iraq? Not f'n me or any of my brothers.
Reply:What is wrong with not wanting to fight, but wanting to serve your country? He didn't say he was a conscientious objector. He just said he doesn't want to go to Iraq. There are plenty of jobs in the military where you don't have to be in combat, and the military life style is what he was talking about.

I am sure if it came down to it, and he had to fight, he would.

It's the Department of Defense, not the Department of Offense.
Reply:wow!! i understand what you mean. this guy wants to get back into the marines and not fight? thats like being a boxer and never putting the gloves on. Sounds like he just misses the benefits the lifestyle and the pay. Someone who wants to sit back and let others get there hands dirty.

sometimes the best defense is a strong offense.
Reply:There is nothing wrong with what that soldier wants to do. After your initial contract is up, which his was ,you can go back and get a secondary MOS (job classification), he will still have his original job on file if they need to deploy him. All jobs can be deployed. If the Marines need him to stay statewide or go overseas it isn't his call. Whats wrong with perks, education and stable income attracts many people but that includes an oath to deploy and engage the enemy in close armed combat. as long as a soldier or marine lives by the oath during their contract , im not concerend by why they joined.
Reply:Every Marine is a rifleman. All Marines are deployable. No matter what you job when you are in a combat zone you are expected to be exactly like a grunt. The way it should be.
Reply:I agree with you 100%. Guarantee that when a Democrat is elected into office in 2008 many will enlist and apply for OCS. Within that 4 years we could have another war or conflict on our hands and they will all be crying and trying to get out. Don't join unless you are 100% committed.
