When a girl tells you to man up, what does that mean?

she and i are both 17. she likes me but she says i need to man up and stop being a pansy before i start dating her. what does that mean. all she tells me is that she wont tell me how im supposed to man up.

she also says im unsure of myself/that i second guess everything. and that i have a lack of confidence

then she says i am very kind loving and attentive...

i know i need to work on most of this stuff to mature more but what is it that can help me to do so?

be her "hero" in situations. It's okay to be sweet

and loving, but maybe she is looking for the "guy

Reply:I think what she means and what she said don't have a lot in common with each other. To "man up" usually means that a guy needs to act more responsible and take the initiative to do what is right, not what is easy.



It sounds more like she is looking for you to act like someone you may not be, or someone you're not ready to be yet. Quite frankly being 17 pretty much means that you're confused, don't have all the answers, and that you don't have a lot of confidence. This is the age in which you start figuring those things out, how long it takes to answer all the questions is up to you.



The best route to being more mature and more responsible is to think things through, try to make the best decisions for the right reasons that you can, and accept that you'll make mistakes and learn from those.



That's effectively being a man. Secrets revealed, it's not about drinking someone under the table, or beating them up, or how many times you get laid per day, none of that matters in the long run.
