I heard that the ncaa has now phased out the terms division 1-a and 1-aa for football, my questions are this?

first off is this the truth after all it is what it said on yahoo sports? will the teams that were formally 1-aa now be competing along with the teams that were 1-a? what will this mean for the future of college football? most importantly is a playoff in our future? ......oh yeah for the hell of it who would like to see one of the perenial powerhouses crush the likes of born with silver spoon in mouth pansy teams such as yale or harvard?????

They aren't really phasing out the divisions. They are just renaming them. To quote from the minutes of the NCAA Division 1 Board of Directors August 1 meeting:

"In another action regarding the two football subdivisions in Division I, the Board approved new labels. The presidents approved a change in terminology to “Football Bowl Subdivision” for the former I-A classification and “NCAA Football Championship Subdivision” for the former I-AA group. The Collegiate Commissioners Association helped develop the new labels.

"The presidents believe the new nomenclature, which becomes effective in December, more accurately distinguishes Division I institutions for purposes of governing football, the only sport for which such a distinction is necessary. Members felt the old nomenclature inaccurately tiered Division I institutions in all sports, not just football, and produced instances in which media outlets and other entities incorrectly cited institutions as being Division I-AA in basketball or baseball, for example."

So the two subdivisions will still be there. They will just have different names to reflect the way they choose a champion.
Reply:They still have the divisions. Nope never going to be a playoff as long as money is being made by the BCS doing it hte way they do it. Now I would think it would be pathetic if the Powerhouse takes on the Ivy League and such. Enough Cupcake games already during the season. We don't need them to make it a big thing and brag about it. Actually alot of the Powerhouses schedule the Division 1-a(formally 1-aa) once a season. It is pathetic that they act like they are really winning a game when they take on a school like that, even worse when they win close and try to act like they shouldn't be that much better and it shouldn't be a blow out.
Reply:me.
Reply:Yeah they changed those. I saw the commercial on ESPN for the Division 1 Championship game formerly known as Division 1-AA. All I know is if I have to sit through Ohio State whipping Alcorn State or Youngstown State or something like that It will be awful. It's bad enough what they do to Bowling Green. Next thing you know Mount Union will be playing in a BCS Bowl Game!
